Private Lessons - Novice to Advanced

Would you like to learn how to fly fish or cast a fly rod? If you have been wanting to pick up your first fly rod, learn the basics of fly fishing, improve your casts, or learn to haul for that fly fishing trip of a lifetime, give us a call — we can help. 

Private lessons (individual or a group of up to 4) are designed to accommodate novice to advanced anglers. Private lessons range from a 1-hour intro to a full day of learning. Instruction is offered outside on the lawn or on the water with a chance to catch a fish!

Topics of discussion vary and can include:

  • Fly casting

  • Rod, reels, lines and leaders

  • Rigging up your outfit

  • Knots

  • Fly tying

  • Fly selection

  • Wading & wading equipment

  • Fresh & saltwater fly -fishing

  • Reading water

  • Casting & wind

  • Fish & landing fish

  • Local laws & regulations

Equipment:

All quality fly rods and reels are provided so there is no need to run out and spend money without having tried it first, but please feel free to bring your own! When needed or required, anglers must provide their own waders, sunscreen, hat, eye protection, rain gear and appropriate footwear.

Locations:

We are based on the eastern coastline of Connecticut and can provide lessons within Hartford, Middlesex, and New London Counties, to also include South County, Rhode Island. For other locations, call or email for availability.

Rates:

  • 1 person - $60/hr or 2 hrs for $100

  • 2-4 people - 2 hr minimum - $40/hr per person

  • 3 hour wading instruction (with a chance to catch a fish!) - $180 for 1 person or $300 for 2 people; only limited to 2 people.*
